Margin calculator
Pick a market, your lot size and your leverage to see the margin a trade needs in US dollars, what the position is worth, and how much of your balance it takes.
Margin needed
$2,350.00at 1:100
- Position value
- $235,000.00
- Margin per 1.00 lot
- $2,350.00
- Share of balance
- 23.5%
- Most lots this margin allows
- 4.25 lots
The most lots is a ceiling, not a size. To size a trade by what you're willing to lose, use the lot size calculator.
Margin = lots × contract size × price ÷ leverage, in the market's second currency, then in US dollars.
For a USD account. Contract sizes are typical and prices are samples: check your broker's contract specification and type today's price. TradeMirrorly itself uses your broker's own figures for every symbol.
How it works
How margin is worked out
- 1
Position value
Lots × contract size × price. 1 lot of EURUSD at 1.0850 is worth 108,500 dollars.
- 2
Margin
Position value ÷ leverage. At 1:100 that lot needs $1,085.
- 3
In US dollars
On USDJPY, USDCAD and USDCHF the position is in dollars already, so 1 lot at 1:100 needs $1,000. Yen crosses go through the USDJPY price.

Your broker's leverage
Brokers set leverage per account and often per market: indices, metals and crypto usually get less than forex.
- Margin isn't risk: what a trade can lose depends on its stop loss. TradeMirrorly sizes each copied signal from its stop loss, in lots, money or % of balance, per channel.
How is forex margin calculated?
Margin = lots × contract size × price ÷ leverage. 1 lot of EURUSD at 1.0850 with 1:100 leverage needs 100,000 × 1.085 ÷ 100 = $1,085.
How much margin does 0.01 lot of gold need?
With a 100-ounce contract at $2,350 and 1:100 leverage: 0.01 × 100 × 2,350 ÷ 100 = $23.50. Type today's gold price for your own figure.
What leverage do I have?
It depends on your broker, your account type, and often your country and the market. Your broker's account page and contract specification say it.
What happens if my margin runs out?
Your broker sets a margin call level and a stop-out level. Below the stop-out, the broker closes trades to protect the account. The levels differ from broker to broker.
Does TradeMirrorly size trades by margin?
No, by risk: lots, money or % of your balance per channel, from each signal's own stop loss. Max open trades caps how many are open at once, and a daily loss limit stops new trades for the rest of the day.
